Jennifer Tennant

Senior Advisor, Family Office

With so many of my cherished moments in life centred around family and sharing memories together, I have come to realize the significant and positive impact having a strong family can have on one’s life. It brings me so much joy to see how I can help create that positive impact for a family. At the end of the day, it’s not about the achievements I make for myself, but what I am able to do for others that brings me such fulfilment.

Jennifer Tennant is the Senior Advisor, Family Office where she works to guide families and provide a more cohesive and holistic path forward. Jennifer recognizes the importance of ensuring that there is sufficient dialogue and planning between generations and can see the difference a well laid out plan can make for family relationships. Jennifer believes that so much of success lies in how succinct a family is in its direction and she gets great enjoyment helping families discover that direction.

Jennifer graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and went on to obtain her Chartered Accountant designation (CPA, CA). She began her career in the assurance practice at one of Canada’s top four accounting firms before moving into the private client group, focusing predominately on providing accounting and tax services to family-owned businesses. Jennifer worked together with a multidisciplinary team to come up with and execute complex solutions. She oversaw various projects ranging from tax planning and compliance for both personal and corporate matters to process improvement and implementation which helped add clarity and efficiencies for clients. Jennifer has worked with families across the country to develop and maintain prosperous and effective long-term plans for each unique situation. She found her passion in making the difference in the lives of families.

In her spare time Jennifer loves to hike and ski with her parents and twin sister in Whistler. She also has a keen passion for travel and believes that visiting new places helps add to the depth of understanding and appreciation of life. When she is not travelling, she loves to spend time cooking elaborate meals or desserts for all the special occasions in her family’s lives. Her family has been such an important part in her life and has continued to support her throughout all her endeavors. Much of what she has accomplished would not have been possible without their support, for which she is eternally grateful.

Lesley MacKinnon

Philanthropy Specialist, Liaison, Family Office

Bringing people together effectively to support a shared goal is my best day at work. At Grayhawk I do this with successful families across generations as well as with advisors and other partners. I have the privilege of ensuring family members access customized resources that suit their needs as individuals and support their goals as part of a family working hard to leave a legacy.

Lesley MacKinnon is the Philanthropy Specialist, Liaison, Family Office, leading family philanthropy programs and providing direct support to Family Office advisors and clients for the delivery of outsourced family office services. Born and raised in Calgary, Lesley began her career as a Parliamentary Page in Canada’s House of Commons (with many thanks to her French Immersion education) and stayed in Ottawa to complete both a BA (Honours) in Global Politics and Women’s and Gender Studies and an MA in Political Economy from Carleton University. She also completed a certification in international microfinance from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management after an internship in Bangladesh at the Grameen Bank.

Following five years of research spanning topics such as social finance and impact investing, social innovation, and community change in Ottawa and Calgary, Lesley moved into the non-profit sector as part of the donor relations team at United Way of Calgary and area. For three years she managed the giving portfolios of high net worth philanthropists investing in the causes that are most important to them and their families. In addition to contributing to many ongoing initiatives that benefit the Calgary community, this work uncovered a passion for collaborating with successful families to achieve their goals across generations. She joined Grayhawk after a year leading the Fig Tree Foundation, a small charitable foundation supporting Calgary-based international development organizations.

With inescapable roots in the community, Lesley currently serves on the Board of Directors for Volunteer Alberta and as an advisor with a development project in Tanzania. She continues a lifelong passion for reading and journaling alongside a rotating list of creative outlets that spans furniture upcycling to painting and photography. She loves to travel for amazing concerts and hopes to enjoy an international yoga retreat soon. In the meantime, she will continue exploring the city with her dog and taking advantage of extra time with her family.
